Every journey starts with one step.

For Eric Montgomery, that journey is the trek of a lifetime. Over the course of four months, he’ll hike the entire Pacific Crest Trail.

Although Eric is hiking solo, he won’t be alone. He’s teamed up with the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, Swifty Foundation, Dragon Master Foundation and Kortney Rose Foundation to raise awareness and funds for another difficult journey — curing childhood brain cancer.

You can join our journey to raise four pennies for each of the 4.6 million steps Eric will take. The $185,000 raised will fund research into diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), a highly aggressive brain cancer that has no cure.

Why Four Pennies?

The National Cancer Institute, the largest source of funding for cancer research, currently spends only four cents of every research dollar on pediatric cancer. Although medical advances in the past 40 year have improved survival rates for many types of childhood cancer, diffuse intrinsic pontine gliomas are not one of them. DIPG is a highly aggressive brain tumor that defies treatment.

Curing DIPG will take all of us. Four Pennies’ collective goal is to raise $185,000 – four pennies for each step Eric will take on the Pacific Crest Trail.

Your Dollars’ Impact

Your donation will be invested in Project Open DIPG, a collaborative research effort by the Pacific Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Consortium (PNOC) and the Children’s Brain Tumor Tissue Consortium (CBTTC). Project Open DIPG embodies a “team science” strategy – pairing CBTTC’s approach to tissue sample collection, genomic sequencing and data analysis on the CAVATICA platform with PNOC’s clinical trial efforts.

By sharing data openly, Project Open DIPG will help the research community identify and develop personalized treatment strategies for DIPG and other types of pediatric brain tumors.

Take your first step to cure DIPG!

Our intrepid Pacific Crest Trail hiker may be making his journey solo, but the journey to cure DIPG can only be taken together.
Your donation is the first step to defeating this highly aggressive brain cancer.
100% of proceeds will be invested in Project Open DIPG, a collaborative research effort by the Pacific Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Consortium and Children’s Brain Tumor Tissue Consortium.
